Latin
No previous knowledge of Latin is required. Courses range from Beginners to Advanced
Sources and Resources: Palaeography and Diplomatics
A wide range of subjects are covered in this three semester module to familiarise students with the various resources available and provide a foundation of knowledge concerning source material. This course includes such topics as palaeography (the study of writing and manuscripts), diplomatics (a branch of palaeography which studies official documents to determine age, authenticity, etc.), linguistic theory, epigraphy and presentation skills, among others.
Reading and Research
Under the guidence of a member of the academic staff the student will be required to propose a research topic early in the third semester, present the topic early in the fourth semester and have completed the thesis by the end of term.
